According to Dauda, he beheaded Emmanuel because he refused to surrender his motorcycle when he accosted him and demanded for it at Kagbodu village in Lapai Local Government Area in Niger state.
The police in the state was alerted after the brother of the deceased, Amos Sunday, reported to the Lapai division police that his brother did not return home from work.
Investigation by the police led to the arrest of Dauda. When interrogated, he said himself and one Mohammed Yinusa, who is now on the run, carried out the dastard act and gave reasons why Emmanuel was beheaded.
“He refused to hand over his motorcycle to me. So I got angry and we beheaded him and zoomed off with the motorcycle. I don’t know what came over me. We are from the same Kogi state but we reside in Niger State. How do I explain myself to my kinsmen?” he saidHe denied wanting to use Emmanuel's head for ritual.
“I couldn’t have used my kinsman’s head for rituals; our culture forbids it; it was the devil that pushed me into killing him.” he saidSpeaking on the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, Muhammad Abubakar, said Emmanuel's body and motorcycle, have been recovered. He added that Dauda would soon be charged to court while his accomplice, Yinusa, would soon be apprehended.
